Free Yahoo directory listing
Google recommends you submit your website to two specific directories.
Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.
As you probably know Dmoz is a joke and you are more likely to win a lottery than get accepted. Yahoo on the other hand is great but freaking expensive! $300/year! (To be honest its well worth it in some cases) Basically there are free submissions but strictly for none commercial or charity websites. Little birdy told me Canadian part of Yahoo directory however does not have a problem with commercial sites. In fact you can expect to get a listing after waiting for just 3 months. So go ahead and try you luck by submitting to ca.dir.yahoo.com. (Category/suggest a site/free) Whats the worst that could happen?

L, any good advice or someone I can go to assure that my websites get approved in the Yahoo Canadian directory. Also is the cost still $300 a year in that directory? – Thanks

跟踪发布你文章的站点。给他们提供稿件来源。
与其他网站交换文章发表。
把文章发送给RSS网站如抓虾、鲜果等。
做一个让人觉得自己很重要的调查，比如关于家庭主妇的研究等。如果你让别人觉得自己重要，别人会免费为你宣传。
目录、社会化书签
很老但很有用。把网站提交给DMOZ-开放目录或其他免费目录。
让你的文章加入百度搜藏、雅虎搜藏、Google书签、QQ书签等社会化书签。
让用户通过Google阅读器、RSS等订阅你的文章。
合作伙伴、专业交换
问问你的合作伙伴或商业伙伴是否可以给你一个链接。
与合作伙伴互相推荐链接。

hm… is this method still working? I hace problems using this mehtod to get into the directory. Step 4 isn’t working… Anyone can help?

This post is more than a year old. Things have probably changed by now. The reason why the date appears to be quite recent is because I had to restore this post from Google cache.

I think submitting your website to Yahoo can be quite worth the cost if you are running a solid legitimate business.
