Nice topic. People usually use shocking meta details to improve clicks and then catchy landing page to convert. That's weird from graph that a 1.5 ranked website has damn low 40% CTR while website having 150 rank has more CTR!!

Hi JMoney,

I think your tactical approach is very sound. The only point I might debate is in the last paragraph about the relative importance of on site versus off site SEO. I would argue that the more competition you have, the more importance off site SEO has relative to on site SEO. With low competition, you can rank number 1 without any off site SEO, provided your on site SEO is good. With lots of competition, you can't rank number 1 with on site SEO alone but you can rank number 1 with off site SEO alone. One example is the number 1 ranking (out of billions of results - yes billions) of adobe for the search term "click here". This keyword does not appear anywhere on site but appears in gazillions of back links.

This is really interesting information, and that conclusion you draw from it (last paragraph) is a very good thing to remember.

I haven't gone into nearly as much detail with my stats for various sites. However, I have noticed a similar trend. That is, even if my site is not number one in results, it still gets a few clicks if it is highly relevant to that particular search.

This holds particularly for the site I'm linking to this comment. (That is, I get a lot of clicks for Australian searches for "seo tips" even though the result is halfway down the first page.)

The problem is Google has been the rules of the games more often then they should. And since Google is saying/pritending all those things that it's not just "more of a keyword thing" - I do not believe them anymore. I've submitted tons of articles without success, then I tried submitting just a couple articles and did backlinking and got huge success.
